FAQs

Studying in Canada — FAQs

Who needs a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)?+
In 2026, most undergraduate and college diploma students need a PAL from the province where they intend to study. However, Master's and PhD students at public institutions are exempt from this requirement.
Can I still work 40 hours per week?+
As of late 2024/2025, the temporary 40-hour rule ended. Students can now work up to 24 hours per fortnight off-campus during semesters and full-time during scheduled breaks.
Is the SDS (Student Direct Stream) still available?+
No, IRCC discontinued the SDS stream in November 2024. All students from Nepal now apply through the regular study permit stream, which requires more comprehensive financial documentation.
Is my chosen program eligible for a PGWP?+
Under the 2026 rules, most public university degrees remain eligible. However, many college diploma programs now require a specific alignment with Canada's long-term labor shortage list. We help you verify this before you apply.
